Grass Cutting
We’re committed to keeping your outdoor spaces clean, safe, and pleasant to enjoy throughout the year.
Below is a guide to what you can expect from our grounds maintenance service, including how often we cut grass, maintain hedges and shrubs, clear leaves, and manage communal areas. We aim to carry out this work with care for the environment, while also creating places people are proud to call home.
Grass cutting
Grass will be cut every 2 weeks, starting in late March through to early October, working out at between 14 and 16 visits each year, weather permitting.
Most customers will receive a cut and drop grass service – this is called ‘grasscycling’. We will collect grass twice a year, once at the start and once at the end of the season.
Grasscycling will:
- Save time and money by eliminating the collection and removal of grass cuttings
- Encourage healthier grass and release nutrients into the soil
- Provide a natural source of fertiliser and help the soil to retain water
- Save energy by conserving the fuel that is required to take cuttings to landfill/ composting sites, helping us to reduce our carbon footprint
- Save valuable landfill/composting space
Litter will be collected before each grass cut.
If grass can’t be cut because of bad weather, our teams will still attend site, but may complete other works such as pruning or hard surface clearances.
Paths – hardstanding
Paths will be cleared of grass cuttings, leaves and litter after every grass cut.
Hardstanding spaces like washing/drying areas will be kept clear of moss and weeds by being sprayed at least twice annually and litter-picked each month.
Hedges & Shrubs
All hedges and shrub beds will receive two prunes a year.
A light summer prune will be carried out to remove new soft growth without impacting any nesting birds. This is to maintain safe walkways and lines of sight whilst encouraging thicker growth. We may leave any flowering shrubs during the summer to support pollinators, only trimming them back once blooming has finished or if they begin to obstruct access or visibility.
A harder winter prune is carried out to take back larger growth to allow good rejuvenation in years to come.
Our pruning visits are a large task, taking place over multiple visits in June, July and August for the summer prune and November to February for the winter prune. You can expect the team to come back to site multiple times during the process before the whole area is complete.
Weed spraying
During dry weather, we carry out the spraying of weeds in as many areas as possible. We cannot undertake this work when it’s raining as it will not be successful.
Strimming and weed spraying cannot be carried out at the same time as it will be ineffective. Weeds should start to die off 7-10 days after being treated so should not need strimming.
Leaf clearance
During the winter period, the grounds maintenance team also helps and supports the estate by removing built up leaf fall during the autumn.
Gardening services
We offer a chargeable garden maintenance visit to those wishing to have their garden maintained on a one-off or regular basis. Please call and ask for a Chargeable Improvements Garden quotation.
Communal trees
We appreciate how important trees are to our environment and the benefits they bring to communities. As such, we look after our trees and will only carry out maintenance in specific circumstances.
Substantial pruning of a tree can often weaken its structure and should therefore be avoided unless there is a risk of harm to people or property. Pruning for any other reasons would be exceptional and based on risk.
If a tree is Dead, Diseased, Dying or Dangerous we need to know and we will take appropriate action.
We will NOT maintain trees due to: trees blocking light, to control or minimise leaf fall, sap from a tree, blossom or fruit issues, birds nesting or their droppings, or any other wildlife issue.
Trees in neighbouring gardens are the responsibility of the occupier, but we will always assist where we can in getting issues resolved.
