Making a Difference
to people's lives

A thank you goes a long way

It's nice to feel appreciated, and know that good deeds haven't gone unnoticed. Having someone say thank you can mean so much. So, when the Shropshire Star's 'Great Big Thank You Awards' roll around each year, we feel it's important for us, as an organisation supporting Shropshire's communities, to help recognise some of the wonderful people who live in our areas.

The awards aim to find the outstanding and selfless individuals and groups across the region who make a difference to the people around them. They probably never ask for anything in return, or expect recognition, but we believe a thank you can go a long way.

This year, The Wrekin Housing Group are sponsoring three awards categories, including a brand new category introduced for 2018 – Grandparent of the Year.

If you know someone who deserves to be considered, you can see a full list of awards categories and the criteria judges will be looking for, including the online nomination form at.starthankyou.shropshirestar.co.uk or click the link at the side of this article.

They may be members of your family, friends, neighbours, colleagues, or someone who you have heard about and found their story inspirational.

The person, or people, you nominate should live or work in the Shropshire and mid Wales area, i.e. within the circulation area of the Shropshire Star.

You can make as many nominations as you like but please complete separate nomination forms for each individual or group.

Remember, we can't say a 'Great Big Thank You' to anyone unless you tell us about them!

If someone jumps to mind, you need to nominate them before midnight on Monday, 7th May (Bank Holiday Monday).

A panel of judges will shortlist finalists in each of the nine categories and the chosen finalists will receive a write-up about them in the Shropshire Star and online. You can then vote for the person in each category who you think deserves to win by cutting out special tokens published in the newspaper.

The voting tokens will appear in the Shropshire Star from 12th July until 4th August and you can collect as many as you like. During certain times you will also be able to cast your vote online.

The chosen winners, each with a guest, will be invited to an awards event being held in the autumn.
