Children enjoy half term activities thanks to Housing Plus Group funding

Children across Telford and Wrekin have been treated to a fun-filled half term thanks to funding from Housing Plus Group.

A total of £7,000 was distributed between 12 groups to support activities throughout the week, including Halloween parties, craft sessions and trips.

Among the organisations to receive funding was Donnington Community Hub.

Manager Richard Overton said: “We couldn’t thank the Housing plus group enough. The funding means we can put on half term activities for the children locally.

“Our youth club volunteers always love working with the children and it’s good to have the much-needed resources to deliver these free activities and feed the children. This week we have been scavenger hunting and cake decorating.”

Stirchley and Brookside Parish Council used their grant to put on a series of cooking sessions.

Nikki Boronski, Community Engagement and Youth Provision Officer, said: “Being awarded the Housing Plus Group activity fund has meant we were able to provide three cooking sessions for families in the local area.

“The sessions have been run by Lola's Caribbean Kitchen and have been a huge success.

“Families learn to cook budget friendly meals together and then get to enjoy their meal at home as a family.”

Meanwhile Silver Threads in Donnington received funding for a Kids Café Halloween Special, which was enjoyed by local children and residents of Lawndale retirement living.

Manager Alan Watkins said: “The funding from HPG has enabled us to put on an intergenerational Halloween workshop with our Kids Cafe Youth and residents of Lawndale.

"We had a day of pumpkin carving, planting, crafts, games and sports. Residents from Lawndale join in with planting, cake decoration and enjoyed talking with the children and breaking barriers down. The day was very successful.”

Other activities supported throughout the week ranged from family ghost tours in Wellington to sports workshops in Hadley and a silent disco in Leegomery.

Sam Hine, Social Value and Inclusion Manager at Housing Plus Group, said: “We’re proud to support such a wide range of creative and inclusive activities for children and families across the borough.

“It’s wonderful to see communities come together to make half term magical, and we’re thrilled that our funding helped bring so much joy, learning and connection to local families.”
