Dementia care home residents loving giant electronic tablets
Residents with Dementia at a Staffordshire care home have been given a welcome boost during the pandemic - with the introduction of giant electronic tablets.
Residents at Limewood, a Wrekin Housing Group care home, are embracing the new technology.
Residents have enjoyed playing games, drawing pictures and keeping in touch with family members using the touch screen activity tablet, sourced from Shropshire based company, Inspired Inspirations.
Wrekin are delighted that the tablets have been so well received, demonstrating their commitment to support residents.
The giant touch screens are built into a table, giving residents the chance to test out enjoyable games, puzzles and memory-based activities.
Most importantly, the interactive tables are providing residents with the opportunity to keep in touch with their families through video calls. This has given the residents a lift a huge lift during the pandemic, due to the restrictions on family visits as part of the COVID-19-secure measures put in place to keep residents and staff safe.
The idea to purchase the tables came from Wrekin’s Events Co-Ordinator, Katrina Pooler, who felt that they would be a great addition to Limewood.
Katrina said: “The tables have been a massive success, our residents have really embraced the technology by playing games, doing quick puzzles, drawing pictures and undertaking brain training exercises. You can see the difference the tables have made to some of our residents too, they’re becoming more relaxed just by seeing their families and being able to speak with them more often, it’s lovely to see.”
David Barton, Activities and Events Co-Ordinator at Limewood, added: “We are delighted that the interactive tables have been so well received by our residents, having seen first-hand the impact that the tables are having, I can honestly say they’re a wonderful investment.”
Following the amazing reception that the tablets have received, Wrekin are looking to roll out even more tablets across their nine Shire Living Extra Care Schemes based in Shropshire and Staffordshire, for residents to enjoy.
