While it would be easy to spend the money on their 16 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren for Christmas, Jeanette and Edward have decided to treat themselves with it throughout the new year."

"It's money we weren't expecting to have," said Jeanette, "so we're going to save it and spend it on nice things for us."

Jeanette and Edward haven't looked back since moving to Ridgway two years ago from Newark in Nottingham.

A search to find Edward's long lost sister, after he was adopted at birth, led them to Shrewsbury. Becoming very close, very quickly, the couple decided to make the move to be nearer their new-found family and are now heavily involved in community life at the Trust's retirement complex."

"I'm a completely different person here," said Jeanette, who had begun to suffer with depression and anxiety at her old home. "After the children moved away, I kind of withdrew. I didn't want to do anything or go anywhere. I even found going shopping really tough, Edward had to do it all."

"Moving here has given us both a new lease of life. We're involved in lots of the activities on the scheme and go on organised trips with fellow tenants. We love everything about our home and our life here."

Ridgway's Retirement Living Co-ordinator, Sue Turner, presented the vouchers to the lucky couple at their home.
