First house moves in the region - Wrekin homes in demand


The first customers, believed to be the first new affordable housing customers in the region, moved in to their Wrekin properties just five days after the government reopened the housing market which prompted a spike in demand, with over 100 applications submitted in the first week.

The Wrekin Housing Group’s letting service is back up and running enabling them to make a make a difference to people’s lives by providing safe and secure homes to families, couples and individuals across Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Head of Housing Andy Johnson said “We don’t like to see properties stand empty for too long so it’s great to see people moving in to their new homes. Our housing teams have been great in getting a new safe lettings procedure in place so quickly for the benefit of our fantastic new customers.”

The new lettings process is covid-safe and covers all available properties. The process includes socially distanced or remote viewings and telephone consultations.

Wrekin is a socially minded organisation which provides over 13,000 homes for rent and low cost home ownership. With their building sites now reopen Wrekin are committed to the continued delivery of more affordable housing to address local need.
