Happy residents move into former Bushbury Arms pub site

New residents have started moving into the first brand new homes at a former pub site, thanks to a partnership between the Trust and Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board.

Work started on the former Bushbury Arms pub site in Wolverhampton in April 2015, and is hoped to be completed by October 2016.

The new homes are a mixture of two and four bedroom houses and one bedroom apartments for affordable rent. The pub building, which is locally listed, has been extensively renovated and sensitively converted to provide new homes.

The keys to the first six two-bedroom homes were handed over this week, with the next phase scheduled for April.
Shellbie Simmons, who is thrilled to be moving back to the area after being in Tettenhall, said: I'm so happy to have got one of these properties and be able to move back to my home. Everyone has been really helpful and it's great to now start getting settled."

Kim Campbell, who has been living in Bushbury with her parents and her two year old son, also collected her keys this week. She said: "My little boy and I are so excited to move in; it's a fresh start for us. The houses are great; spacious and homely. We can't wait to get in the garden too."

Steve Swann, Development Manager at the Trust, said: "We're delighted to see this development complete, the homes are a great new addition to the area. We were really pleased to work with partners and residents to make the site a great place to live."

Ken Spilsbury, Tenant Chair of Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board said: "It's fantastic that we have been able to save a local landmark building and provide new homes for local people. We look forward to managing these homes on behalf of the Trust and integrating them into our community."

Once completed, the new homes will have generated £9 million to the economy, and created almost 90 jobs including four apprenticeship opportunities.
