High Sheriff Award for Specialist Housing Team
A Specialist Housing Team (SHS) from The Wrekin Housing Group have been recognised with a High Sheriff of Shropshire award.
The High Sheriff’s Awards celebrate the unsung heroes that contribute to society and help make Shropshire a better place.
The team offer housing advice and assistance to people across Shropshire who find themselves in housing need. Led by Advice and Landlord Services Manager Paula Phillips, they give help and advice around housing rights and benefits, help people liaise with their landlords and also help find accommodation for those that may otherwise become homeless.
The High Sheriff of Shropshire, Mrs Dean Harris JP said; “We are living in unprecedented times with Covid-19 presenting one of the biggest challenges we’ve faced for generations. I’m delighted to recognise the great work that Wrekin’s SHS team have done this year and celebrate their contribution to our society – they really are making a difference to people’s lives.”
Paula Phillips said; “We are delighted to win this award which recognises the work we have been doing and how we have made a difference to people’s lives. This year due to Covid-19 we have experienced double our normal enquires. Our work often sees us prevent homelessness by helping people who, for various reasons, can’t access mainstream housing. People contact us at a crisis point in their lives, whether that be a relationship breakdown, a change in health or suffering from poor housing conditions and it’s very rewarding to help them see light at the end of the tunnel.”
The team all share the belief that everyone deserves a safe and secure place to call home and have helped many people over the course of the year while adapting to the added pressures of keeping everyone safe from Covid-19.
