Housing Plus Group launches new community days to bring services closer to customers

Community clean-up brings colleagues, residents and partners together to transform local neighbourhood.

A community day organised by Housing Plus Group has helped transform the area around Olde Hall Road in Featherstone with colleagues, residents and local partners working together to tackle long-standing environmental issues.

The event, centred around Olde Hall Court and the surrounding streets, brought together colleagues from our housing, estates and repairs teams alongside local partners including Councillor John Brindle and neighbourhood PCSO Teresa Nicholls.

The community day was co-ordinated by Housing Officer, Michael Fletcher, following concerns raised by the Parish Council after residents reported ongoing issues relating to litter, fly-tipping and items left in communal areas.

After attending a Parish Council meeting and meeting with residents in September, Michael carried out inspections across the neighbourhood and residential blocks. The visits highlighted several concerns affecting both the appearance of the area and fire safety within communal spaces.

Working closely with customers, Michael developed a plan to clear the affected areas and improve the local environment. Residents were kept informed throughout the process, with Michael spending time speaking directly with residents to explain the planned improvements and understand their priorities.

The event reflects a new way of working for Housing Plus Group, bringing together colleagues from different teams and partner organisations to provide a more visible presence within neighbourhoods, respond to customer concerns and resolve issues more quickly.

Michael Fletcher, Housing Officer at Housing Plus Group, said:

"Despite the very wet weather, the team turned out in force to help tackle litter, fly-tipping and items left in communal areas, and the difference we made together was incredible.

"We wanted to make sure customers felt listened to, so we worked closely with them in advance, developed a plan and brought together colleagues from across the business to help make a real difference. The response from teams across Housing Plus Group was fantastic and showed just how much can be achieved when people come together with a shared goal."

Throughout the day, residents stopped to thank colleagues for their efforts and comment on the improvements being made. One local resident, who had previously raised concerns about anti-social behaviour and rubbish in the area, contacted the team afterwards to express their appreciation for the work carried out and the ongoing support provided.

Michael added:

"It was also great to see local partners joining us on the day. Having the support of Councillor John Brindle and PCSO Teresa Nicholls demonstrated the value of partnership working and our shared commitment to improving local neighbourhoods.

"This was the first of many community days, and we're looking forward to spending more time in our neighbourhoods, strengthening relationships with customers and helping create places people are proud to call home."

Paula Steen, Head of Housing for the South Staffordshire area, added:

"We want customers to see us, know us and feel confident approaching us. Spending time within our neighbourhoods helps us understand what matters most to residents and gives us the opportunity to take action where it's needed.

"It's great to see how much we managed to do in a short space of time and hear how positively it has impacted local residents. The next community clean-up event will be in a different area where we've seen similar issues raised, and we're all looking forward to it."

Housing Plus Group aims to build on the success of the day with further community events planned across its neighbourhoods in Telford and Wrekin, Shropshire and Staffordshire.
