Housing trust serves up winning partnership with tennis centre

The Wrekin Housing Trust has celebrated its partnership with the Telford Tennis Centre by awarding prizes to league winners.

It is the second year that the Trust has supported the centre, located on New Road in Wrockwardine Wood, which this year ran three leagues – a men’s, ladies and mixed doubles league. Each league was made up of a number of teams consisting of up to six players per team.

Representatives of the winning teams, Robin Gilbert from Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club; Elaine Marsh from Shifnal Tennis Club; and Paul Godwin, from Wrekin & Telford Tennis Community, were presented with their prizes by Edward Thomas, Group Head of Marketing and Communications at The Wrekin Housing Group. Each team received shopping gift vouchers.

Edward said: “The Trust is passionate about and committed to supporting a variety of local communities and activities. We decided to support the Telford Tennis Centre for a second year because these leagues appeal to a mixed audience, as well as encouraging social interaction and fitness.”

Jamie McLintock, Duty Manager at the Telford Tennis Centre, said: “It’s great to have The Wrekin Housing Trust supporting us. Indoor tennis is a very popular activity and a great way for people to be active in a fun and friendly environment.

“The players who participate in our leagues are a mix of ages, but they all play to a pretty decent standard and they are all quite competitive. But at the end of the day, these three teams proved to be the best so congratulations to them.”
