Residents welcomed to new development in Dawley

Residents at a brand new development celebrated with Trust representatives and their local councillor, welcoming them to their new homes and officially cutting the ribbon on the recently completed site.

The new development of 13 properties has replaced a derelict block of flats, completely regenerating the area and creating modern energy-efficient homes for local people.

The site, built for the Trust by J Harper & Sons, now consists of 12 two-bedroom houses and one adapted three-bedroom house.

The new residents of the specially adapted house, Amy and Michael Antonsen and their son Jack who uses a wheelchair, were one of the first families to move into the new homes, moving from close by in Dawley.

Amy said: "We're absolutely thrilled with our new home, it meets all of our needs and we feel safe and secure here. It was lovely to get a visit from Cllr Davies and the Trust and to show everyone around."

Amy's neighbour Natasha Barrett, who also lives with her son Dylan, who is five, said: "It's a great house, well designed and warm, and it's lovely after living in a flat to have the garden for Dylan."

Jo Robertson, Area Manager for the Trust, said: "This site is a great example of how redevelopment can benefit the local area and residents alike. It's great to see everyone settling in and getting to know each other, and we know they will be very happy in these fantastic new homes."

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council ward member for Malinslee and Dawley Bank, said: "I am delighted that this scheme has been completed, it has made a big improvement to the area and provides high quality and modern homes for members of the community. The homes that The Wrekin Housing Trust provide are highly sought after, and I'm looking forward to seeing more investment in the Dawley and Malinslee area in new and existing homes held by the Trust."

Investment in the Telford area by the Trust continues to grow, with hundreds of new homes started last year, including the Park Road site in Malinslee which will create over 80 new homes when complete next year, 29 homes at the Coddon Club site in Trench, 20 at the Glebelands development in Donnington and the regeneration of the old Arriva bus depot in Wellington which will consist of 31 new homes, with many more planned to start this year and next.

All new rented homes in Telford are advertised through our website where you can find out more about applying for a home.
