Sun shines on charity golf fundraisers

Over 70 players braved the elements to take part in a charity golf day that raised over £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support this week.

The event was organised by The Wrekin Golf Society in partnership with The Wrekin Housing Trust and held at Shifnal Golf Club, with the day being named in memory of former staff member Jim Waters, who received care from the charity in his final days.

Trust Managing Director, Wayne Gethings, who played in the event himself said: "We have just had 18 hours of solid rain but the skies magically cleared for five hours so that we could all get around this magnificent course, although high winds did test the skills of even the best players competing!

"We are extremely grateful to our contractors and guests for taking part and generously supporting the day by donating raffle and auction prizes, all of which has helped raise over £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support"

One of the guests taking part was Ian Gregory, of Dodd Group Electrical & Mechanical Services, of Telford, who added: "This has been a fantastic day and very well organised indeed, we were extremely lucky with the weather as I originally feared the event may have to be cancelled due to the rain, but the course was actually in a beautiful condition.

"My team played well and everybody else appears to have had an enjoyable day, while also raising valuable funds for charity at the same time."
