Wrekin duo to complete canoe challenge in memory of friend

Two women from Telford are raising money for a Severn Hospice by taking part in an epic 25-mile canoe challenge– in honour their late friend.

Carol Denning,57, and Caroline Cowper, 44 will be canoeing from Montford Bridge to Ironbridge on Friday 14th July in memory of their much-loved colleague Di North, who passed away earlier this year.

Di was a much-loved colleague who had been part of The Wrekin Housing Group for over 20 years. Di was a proud housing professional and joined Wrekin having led on a national pilot for the Choice Based Lettings. During her time with Wrekin, Di worked on many key projects – including playing a key role in establishing the Group’s partnership with the Bushbury Hill Estate Management Board.

Carol said:

“Di was a very special women who always went out of her way to help her colleagues. She was kind, compassionate and had a brilliant ability to lift the people around her, as well as being hugely dedicated to her job. We miss her energy, enthusiasm and willingness to go out of her way to help people

“That’s why we have decided to dedicate our canoe challenge in memory Di. We want to raise as much as we can for Severn Hospice, a charity that supported Di and her family during her illness.”

Caroline added: "In life as well as in work, Di was fondly liked and formed close friendships with colleagues and clients.

"She was a dedicated, kind and generous colleague who will be truly missed by everyone here at Wrekin.

“All donations go direct to Severn Hospice, so please donate generously to an excellent cause and in memory of a much-missed friend and colleague who was taken tragically early."

"We would also like to thank Drummond Outdoor for donating the canoe hire for the day of the challenge.”
