Wrekin secures funding to help tenants impacted by rising energy costs

The Wrekin Housing Group is looking to help tenants impacted by rising energy costs by recruiting its first energy advisor

Wrekin, who provide affordable homes to over 28,000 people across Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire and Staffordshire, has been able to create the new position thanks to funding from Cadent Foundation.

The energy advisor will work with Wrekin’s tenants to provide energy saving advice, as well as offering practical support to people most at risk of fuel poverty and helping to make their homes more environmentally friendly. They will also work with residents to access grants, support and measures for their homes, and be responsible for building relationships with key partners.

Dan Bebbington, Debt and Energy Manager with the Wrekin Housing Group, said:

“The rising cost of energy remains a major concern for our tenants. We’re receiving calls from worried customers on a daily basis and we are working hard to provide them with the right support and advice.

“I’m delighted that we now have the resources to recruit a dedicated energy advisor. We’re looking for a people person with good communication skills who can offer both practical tips and look at longer term solutions to help our tenants, For Wrekin tenants facing money struggles it’s important they know we are by their side to help them through – not just now, but for the many months to come.

“We would also like to thank the Cadent Foundation for their support in making this much-needed role a reality.”

Julia Dwyer, Director of the Cadent Foundation said:

“Our core purpose is to help households find sustainable solutions to fuel poverty by awarding grants to charities and organisations working to support those impacted by this growing issue. With the increasing cost of living a constant struggle for Wrekin tenants we wanted to offer a grant to support tenants.

“We are delighted to be able to offer Wrekin a grant for a dedicated energy advisor, who can not only provide debt advice but also support tenants with tailored energy advice and measures in the home as well as information on accessing grants which may be available to them. We hope this practical support will make a real difference to Wrekin tenants.”
