Building Better Opportunities

The Building Better Opportunities (BBO) project brings together funding from the National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund (ESF) to help tackle the poverty and social exclusion faced by the most disadvantaged people in Shropshire.

Run in conjunction with the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP), the project provides pre-employment support within Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin for people aged 19 and above and not in work.

Our teams identify and address some of the barriers to work that people are facing locally, helping people to engage in activity and move forwards into employment. This project will run until the 31st March 2022.

What can BBO offer you?

Support to access opportunities like job clubs, volunteering, work placements and education.

We provide supported work experience placements and community activities designed for all abilities to help you build confidence and skills. We will assist in accessing opportunities to attend job clubs that will give people the skills to be able to write CVs, develop interview techniques, IT skills and any other area of development identified.

Support to access funds

We are unique in that we have different teams offering housing advice, support in welfare benefits, housing support, managing finances and sustaining tenancies. This includes accessing funds to pay for travel to job interviews, volunteering placements and some training venues.

Support to get your business idea of the ground

Our business advisors offer a series of free one-to-one sessions and online workshops for those interested in running their own business or social enterprise. We will work with you to understand your needs, help you set your business goals and build your ideas through one-to-one support and a series of online workshops, one-to-one reviews, peer to peer support and more.

What our participants say:

“I feel more confident now applying for courses, thanks for your help.”

“Genuinely brilliant! I wouldn’t be back in work if it wasn’t for them.”

“I am so much more confident now; I really want to look at starting my own business.”

“BBO is a brilliant way to help people; I found other avenues to achieve my goals.”
