One of the youngest council leaders in England and Wales, Shaun Davies was instrumental in restoring Telford & Wrekin Council to Labour party leadership, leading his Labour administration to its best ever result in May 2019 which his group was returned with a significantly increased majority bucking the regional and national trends.

Since his election as leader in May 2016, Shaun has continued to deliver on his vision for Telford and Wrekin: “To Protect, Care and Invest to create a better borough.

He has also been instrumental in a number of initiatives to promote the Borough as a place for business and investment, including the Telford Growth Package and Telford Land Deal, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the UK, between the Council and Homes England.

Shaun is a Non-Executive Director of The Wrekin Housing Group and the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership. Since September 2021, Shaun has been Chair of the LGA Resources Board and is an experienced peer reviewer and mentor to leaders and cabinet members of other authorities.

The council’s excellent progress and the outcomes it is delivering are recognised in the number of positive ratings, peer reviews and awards it has recently received and in 2021 Shaun’s leadership was specifically recognised as ‘outstanding and inspirational’ following an LGA review of Telford & Wrekin Council’s COVID-19 response.

Shaun is a dynamic and progressive leader with many plans for the future of his Telford and Wrekin Council. Raised and educated in the Borough, Shaun studied law at Aberystwyth University, progressing to Staffordshire University for post-graduate qualifications.
